MR Harbour City Bears Honour Roll

"A bear celebrates their manliness not in the size of beard or body hair, but in their strength of character, their ability to bounce back from adversity, their kindness to others, their ability to talk and listen to others, and their capacity to state what they will do and then do it. Who could not admire such a man?" - Adamm, President VicBears 2018-19

2009 - Jason Lee

Jason Lee went on to win Mr Australiasia Bear at Southern Hibernation in Melbourne the same year and then in 2010 "Mr Great British Bear Bash" at the event of the same name at the Birdcage nightclub in Manchester.

“I’m so happy it’s great to win, especially good when you beat the Poms,” Lee told Southern Star from the UK. “Who would have thought a year ago when I entered the Mr HCB competition that I would go on to win the Mr Australasia Bear title and now this. “Everyone jokes that I’m a sash queen but now I have three sashes, I guess I am.”

2010 - Justin Hyde

Bear and cubs of all ages, shapes & sizes are invited to battle it out for the winner’s prize: a return flight to Melbourne to take part in the Mr Australasia Bear during Southern Hibearnation in June.

Hosted by Maxi Shield.

2011 - George Showel

32-year-old George Showell took out the title of Mr Harbour City Bear 2011 at the Exchange Hotel on Saturday night, beating fellow contestants Stephen Bennett and Akren Garkos to the prize. Showell, a Project Officer from Erskineville with an interest in filmmaking, was the crowd favourite and impressed the judges across the beach wear, bear wear and fetish wear rounds. “I was a little bit nervous, but (hostess) Joyce Maynge put me at ease. It was a hot venue with almost 200 people packed in there, and a lot of friends to cheer me on,” Showell said.  Showell was awarded a cash prize and a return airfare to Melbourne to compete for the title of Mr Australasia Bear on June 18. “I’m hoping to do the best I possibly can down in Melbourne; I’m looking forward to representing the Harbour City Bears. And the Harbour City Bears President, Jonny Bastin has told me that there’s lots planned for me in the year ahead.”

2012 - Alan Cadogan

A full house watched Alan Cadogan take out the title of Mr Harbour City Bear 2012 at the Oxford Hotel’s Supper Club on Saturday night.  Harbour City Bears (HCB) president John Carayannis congratulated the winner and said the night had been a success.  “This is the first year we’ve had both the judges and audience involved in scoring, There was lots of praise for the change on the night, so we’ll look at continuing that again next year.”

Fresh from his win in the 2012 Mr Harbour City Bear competition last month, Alan Cadogan took home the winning leather sash from the Laird Hotel on Saturday, June 16 after a full day’s competition.  VicBears president Rob Camm said Cadogan was singled out by the judges for his poise on stage.
