    Ready for a night of nun-stop entertainment?

    Harbour City Bears have made a group booking to go see SISTER ACT: The Musical on Thursday 10th October 2024.

    Based on the film, which quickly became a heavenly hit, Sister Act is set to light up the theatre and lift our spirits with its irresistible energy and joy, that only this iconic story can!

    This global smash hit musical sent from above, will be at the Capitol Theatre and show starts at 7pm.

    Tickets are $100 per HCB member and $110 per non-member and we only have 20 spaces and full payment is required to book your space.

    Where: The Capitol Theatre Sydney

    When: Thursday 10 October - Meet at 6:30, show starts at 7pm.

    Harbour City Bears is hosting a First Aid Course! Be prepared for any eventuality by doing the fully accredited course, conducted by St John Ambulance.

    Places are very limited, so get in quick!

    This course covers the following:

    • Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
    • The DRSABCD action plan and responding to emergency situations
    • Managing unconscious casualties
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Using a defibrillator (AED)
    • Legal issues in first aid
    • Infection control
    • Diabetes and seizures
    • Asthma
    • Allergic reactions and Anaphylaxis
    • Wound and bleeding management
    • Burns
    • Fractures and dislocations
    • Sprains and strains
    • Hypothermia and hyperthermia
    • Head, neck, and spinal injuries
    • Medical emergencies
    • Choking
    • Abdominal and chest injuries
    • Poisoning management
    • Bites and stings
    • Stroke
    • Safety and risk management

    Where: Acon Meeting Rooms, 414 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills (close to Central Station)
    When: Saturday 9 November, 9:30am to 5:30pm
    How much?: $190 for members, $220 for non-members

    The course certifies you for 3 different qualifications:

    HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing normally, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. CPR is a lifesaving technique which can sustain life until an ambulance arrives. You will gain the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, to describe alternative methods for delivering rescue breaths and how to manage a victim of drowning.

    HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support

    This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies, including managing the unconscious casualty, performing CPR, controlling bleeding and managing other life-threatening situations. It is suitable to both people in workplaces and members of the public who want to be able to manage an emergency first aid situation.

    HLTAID011 Provide first aid

    The flagship St John Ambulance first aid course covers a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty. It is suitable to both people in workplaces and members of the public who want training in first aid.

    Harbour City Bears is invading Newcastle!

    The weekend of 23-24 November, we’re heading up north for a weekend of fun activities with the Newcastle Bears!

    Catch the train from Central to Newcastle with the bears in the morning, arriving just in time for the opening of the Outrageous Block Party, featuring pop sensation Samantha Jade, from 12-8. Get your tickets here. Alternatively, you can make your own way and meet us there!

    We’ve also arranged early-bird pricing for members, even though the early-bird period has finished. Log into your bear benefits page here to reveal the secret code.

    If you prefer a more sedate day, you’re free to explore Newcastle on your own or with friends.

    After the party, we’re all meeting up to kick on in the evening at Bernie’s Bar, Newcastle’s best LGBTQ+ venue, who is hosting Newcastle Bears’ monthly meetup that night! Bernie’s boasts a great dinner menu, as well as a great selection of cocktails. Meet your northern kindred and catch up with the local scene.

    We’ve also booked an entire floor of the Ibis Newcastle exclusively for us, with rooms on sale here. We’ve kept aside one room as the playroom, so expect beary shenanigans all night long. Of course if you prefer, you can stay elsewhere, but if you’re planning on booking a hotel, book through us as we’ve secured a great rate. Who knows, if we get enough bears, we might be able to book out the hotel exclusively!

    Sunday if you’re not too dusty, we’ll explore the local area with our new friends, and then head home on the train just in time for the Sunday Social at the Townie!

    Harbour City Bears' Woof in the Woods is back!


    What's On

    The days are free for you to relax and explore the local area.

    Thursday night we've got a BBQ and camp movie night, with BBQ dinner supplied, and a camp movie classic, follow by drinks and chats around the fire.

    Friday night make your own dinner in the shared kitchen or BBQ, or head into town to one of the local pubs. After dinner, we will have bear beats for us to enjoy, as well as other night activities that our previous attendees know and love- there's a dance area, a play area, and bears ready to go!

    Saturday night, after dinner, relax with a drink around the campfire, play some games, take advantage of the crescent moon to do some stargazing, or find out exactly what it is that bears do in the woods at night.

    Accommodation Options

    Unpowered Camping

    You can camp anywhere on the site, as near or far from other campers as you want. There's lots of areas available to camp, including some that are only accessible with a 4WD or by bushwalking.


    Around the camp kitchen are plenty of spaces, but there are also some sloped areas, so if you want to be super close to the action, make sure you are ok camping on a slope. The campgrounds further afield have excellent flat areas, and lots of privacy and quiet.

    Powered Camping

    The camp kitchen & meeting house has a few external powerpoints available to the campsites near the building. Perfect for bears with CPAPs! Note that these are quite limited, so if you already have a battery for your CPAP, please bring it to free up a powerpoint for another bear.

    King Rooms

    If you're not the camping type, but still want to come along for a great weekend away, the cottage also has separate bedrooms with king beds, each with their own external access.

    Bunk Beds

    The cottage has a bedroom with 4 bunk beds, for those who want a little more comfort, at a lower price.

    Important Information

    Getting there

    Crooked Corner is about 3 hours drive from the city, and is about halfway between Goulburn and Bathurst. If you're a solo traveller or a newbie, join our Facebook Messenger chat room to organise a lift!

    What you'll need

    Everyone will need to bring:

    • Food
      • Breakfasts for Friday, Saturday & Sunday
      • Lunches for Friday and Saturday
      • Dinner for Friday and Saturday nights
      • Snacks for the whole weekend
      • Drinks - Soft and Hard
    • Insect repellent & sunscreen
    • A hat, sunglasses & thongs (or other slip-on shoes)
    • Warm clothing (as it might get cold overnight)
    • Toiletry items (deodorant, toothbrushes etc.)
    • An extra towel for swimming
    • A camp chair and table if you have one (there are on-site chairs and tables, but not enough for everyone)
    • An extension cord for power, and a plug-board

    In addition to that, If you're staying in a campsite, you'll also need:

    • A tent, RV, caravan, swag or other shelter
    • A sleeping bag or other bedding
    • A pillow and something soft to sleep on (e.g. an inflatable mattress, a pad, or a camp bed)
    • A long extension cord for power, and a plug-board
    • Towels and soap

    CPAP users

    If you're staying in a room, there are powerpoints available, however they aren't right next to the beds. You'll need a plugboard and extension cable for your CPAP machine.

    If you're camping, there are powerpoints on the outside of the central camp building, as well as behind the rooms, and t so make sure you set your tent up nearby, and ensure you bring an extension cable long enough to run from there to your campsite.

    Accessibility

    The main site is reasonably accessible, it's mostly flat and has few steps. There are some slopes and hills. Further out on the property the ground can be quite uneven, with the trails connecting the sites being mini-bushwalks.

    The movie night will be subtitled in English, however the subtitles may be dialog-only, not full SDH.

    How Much?:

    Members:

    $120 for camping (per person)

    $165 for a bunk-bed (per person)

    $360 for a king bedroom (2 people are included on this ticket - you can squeeze in more if you want, but they'll need to buy an ordinary camping ticket!)

    If you can't make the full weekend, there's also a ticket for camping Friday-Sunday only, for $95 for members.
